Everyone knows the old proverb, ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’, and at CUFC we really take this to heart. Whilst we love to train and work hard to achieve our goals, there is also a strong social side to the Club and a fantastic line-up of events throughout the year. We’re firm believers in the more the merrier and we’d be delighted to have you getting involved.
We’re devoted to fostering the social aspect of CUFC for three main reasons. Firstly, and most importantly, becoming a part of Cambridge Fencing will inevitably lead to forming lots of new friendships, and both training sessions and socials are always brilliant fun. A healthy work/life balance is essential for maintaining general sanity and happiness, especially with the stresses of work during term time, and with a combination of endorphin kicks from fencing and the fun of socials, CUFC can be a great antidote to the effects of a long working day. Secondly, we’re very keen to maintain and promote the integration of the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of the Club to keep our cohesive, family-like atmosphere. And lastly, strong bonds between fencers can be great for improving the overall performance of a team in competition. Mutual support, enthusiasm, and positive encouragement both on and off the piste are a big part of our ethos.
Getting involved in CUFC social events:
There’s a wide variety of social events organised throughout the year for everyone, ranging from swaps and nights out to bonding team dinners and black tie occasions. For updates, news and information please check the calendar here, follow the Cambridge University Fencing Club page or get in contact with our Social Secretary.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
If you think you might be interested in joining Cambridge University Fencing Club or coming along to a couple of taster sessions to give fencing a go, whether it’s to foster pre-existing sporting prowess or simply to pursue a lifelong ambition to emulate Jack Sparrow, we’d be delighted to see you at our Freshers’ Squash on Friday 14th October. Lots of prospective and current members will be there, including some from our beginners course last year, so it’s a great opportunity to meet everyone, find out a bit more about fencing and us as a club. We hope you can make it and we look forward to meeting you all soon!
